STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARATION
A State of Emergency Declaration is hereby declared in the Town of Berne effective at 4:00pm on March 18th, 2020.
This State of Emergency has been declared due to:
the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus, COVID-19 as a national pandemic as declared by President Trump and as a threat to public health as declared by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo and Albany County Executive Dan McCoy and welfare and safety concerns for the residents of the Town of Berne.
This situation threatens the public safety.
This State of Emergency will remain in effect until rescinded by a subsequent order.
As the Chief Executive of the Town of Berne, I, Sean S. Lyons, exercise the authority given me under Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, to preserve the public safety and hereby render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of Berne.
I hereby direct all departments and agencies of Town of Berne to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public infrastructure and provide such emergency assistance deemed necessary.

Re: Town information COVID-19
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the National State of Emergency declared by President Trump, the Town of Berne will be taking the following precautions.
The Town is working closely with the Albany County Sherriff’s Office Emergency Operations Center, the Berne Fire District and the Helderberg Ambulance Squad to stay informed and prepared should more action be needed during the pandemic.
Between March 18 and April 17, 2020
- Town Hall will be closed
a. Please call Town Clerk at 518-560-0188 for assistance.
b. The Building Code Administration will be available by phone. Contact Chance Townsend at 838-839-8251 or James Bushnell at 518-225-3721.
c. All employees will be instructed to work from home as applicable .
- The Community and Senior Services Center and Access Hilltowns will be closed.
- All scheduled Town meetings will be postponed.
- Town Court Proceedings will be suspended.
- The Transfer Station will remain open with regular operating hours.
These measures will be evaluated near the end of the period and will be extended or removed as necessary.
